Removing the Shift Knob
The shift knob on my '69 spider is a black ball type but it's cracked. So I ordered a new black vinyl one with the Fiat logo on top. Trouble is, I can't seem to get the old one off short of dynamite. I see the nut under the knob but it won't budge. What am I missing?

Re: Removing the Shift Knob
Assuming it doesn't have a locking screw onto the shaft, which is unlikely being a ball, you could try to move the nut down until it locks where the threads stop, then keeping the wrench on it, keep back pressure on it while you unscrew the knob. If it's rusted on, try a large pair of channel locks to unthread it. Then you'll have the problem of the stuck nut. Get another nut, thread it 1/2 way down, thread the new ball down to it, tighten them together and use the same method to get the old nut started back up the shaft.

Re: Removing the Shift Knob
if someone used red locktight on in then it needs heat
just be careful as there is plastic inside under the crome shaft
you should try the other way first
