Fuel mileage
Fuel mileage
I took a drive to pick up some parts yesterday. I filled the gas tank, set the tripmeter and took off. 75% of the driving was highway,25% city. I stopped to refuel at 222.8 miles and took on 8.348 gals. MPG is 26.68. Highway speeds were between 65-75 MPH. Engine - 2.0, carb - 32/36 holley weber.

Re: Fuel mileage
I think thats pretty good considering the speed! I average around 33-34mpg on 87 octane, less on 94, driving 75% secondary highway (90-100kmph)and 25% in-town. 1.8, 10.5-1 comp, dual solex c40's, electronic ignition, no vac. advance.

The CS0 FI does 27-29 mpg (0,8-0,85 litre/10km)
VX does 21-24 mpg (1,0-1,1litre/10km)
Both at nice & twisty higway/coutry roads 55-65 mph.

Re: Fuel mileage
WOW I guess my car needs some serious cleaning. My odometer read (last night) less than 250km I filled up with premium 26.39L and will keep an eye on her. Looks like I am losing about 100km! (even in the city that's awful).

Re: Fuel mileage
I think what you mean to say is " Are gallons different than litres"?
http://opentoronto.com/calculators/gal_ ... _litre.php
Canada uses the Metric system while U.S.A. uses the Imperial system.

Re: Fuel mileage
Csaba - the answer is yes, the Canadian gallon is larger than the US gallon. The Cgal has 4.53 litres while the US gal has 3.78.
This means that if mpg numbers in Canada are higher than those in the US because the gallon is larger. In other words, to travel the same distance, you'd use fewer Canadian gallons than US gallons.

Re: Fuel mileage
Just very recently picked up my 1980 Spider. Haven't done much tuning yet, just changed the plugs. Presently getting 22.6 mpg around town. I spend most of my time between 2000-3500rpm, no highway, lots of back roads, little traffic, average speeds ~40mph. FYI. Pete.

Re: Fuel mileage
@RRoller123
So based on that info I should average Result: 10.41 L/100km
Looks like I will need to monitor my mileage.
I Seafoamed both the engine and the gas tank.

Re: Fuel mileage
Its amazing how different these numbers are, even considering all the different specifications, seems like the dual carbs yield the best economy?

Re: Fuel mileage
My 78 still in stock form only gets 20. Mostly just short trips around town.
We'll see how that changes after the 4-2-1 exhaust & hopefully 32/36 dfev & elect ign. in the spring.

Re: Fuel mileage
You can't beat an FI Spider for economy. It can get over 30 mpg on the highway (~8.5 l /100km).124ADDHE wrote:Its amazing how different these numbers are, even considering all the different specifications, seems like the dual carbs yield the best economy?
I used to get 31-32 from my FI, and it never went under 25 mpg, even when I was a leadfoot. The best I got from a carbed car was 29 mpg, and that was driving steady 65 mph.
