Sold the BMW last week. I am officially in the hunt with a goal of finding/buying/driving a Spider by March - four months away. My plan is to keep it under $5k and leave some reserve to make some improvements, or do whatever I have to do to convince Exit98 to sell me that adorable yellow one....whichever comes first.

Best of luck to you!! I too am on the hunt for a pre-74 car. I have one in my sights, now I'm just scraping together the additional cash to buy her once I have a mechanic look her over. I posted my own initial checklist under "should I pull the trigger" and received friendly and wise advice for which I am grateful. I found a "mobile" mechanic who is actually knowledgeable about these cars and (importantly) is quite critical of them. He will really be giving this thing a once over I'm sure. Personally I think the seller has done a good job of getting it to be a driver. I will post more about it once the mechanic does his thing.
