Re: Best Adhesive for 124 Spider Wing Window Latches?
JB weld is my go-to epoxy but, there are stronger ones, the local autobody shop (NBR) has a 3M epoxy that is apparantly much stronger than the JB. I used JB. Have to clean up with acetone as soon as possible though, its easy at this time

JB Weld seems to do the trick for most. There are even a few folks that have posted in the past that their JB Welded latch came off by taking part of the window glass with it.

I too had tried the mirror glue from my local auto parts store. The first time they lasted 5 months. Second run I used sandpaper, alcohol and repeated 3x. Not much better. So, I tossed them into a box and used a slip-on clip . They have worked great for 2 years now.

Where did you get the slip-on clips? My latest attempt just failed using the cleanup, and eight hour epoxy with clamps overnight.

Here is the info:
"VENT WINDOW LOCK" Part Number: MOT-76994 unit price $10.99
LBC Auto Parts Warehouse, Inc.
135 South Fifth Street
Newport, PA 17074
(717) 567-7711
The only thing I noticed is that when the window is open, the rubber, slip on would move. I used a little contact cement and it has held up fine.

Heres them on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-76994-Vent ... B000COCXHM
I'm thinking about these too as my handles are off too, both sides & I only have 1 & some of the glass was pulled off w/ the drivers side one & I cant see how it would stick to the divet left behind.

Re: Best Adhesive for 124 Spider Wing Window Latches?
I promise that a proper job can be done with adhesive, even with the JB weld! The cure time is 24 hours (on JB), this is in the best cases and I am not 100% sure but, I think full cure is even longer. There are apparently even better epoxies out there. The stock adhesive (not even epoxy probably) from fiat lasts a good 10-20 years, I think we can do better with proper prep and modern chemistry. Not to hurt any feelings but, if done to the highest level of cleanliness and allowing a full cure of JB (if its 10C outside, maybe full cure is a week, i dont know?), these things will stay on, i promise you this!!
The auto degreaser for paint is a slow evap solution that literally takes many minutes to fully evap @ room or warmer temperatures, but its great for cleaning: spray/wipe it on, use clean papertowel to then remove the solvent and the oils it has lifted. Repeat. let dry (use hair dryer to speed up (no comments about fires please, we are all adults, common sense is anticipated ). sand with 220-600 grit. use solvent procedure again. dry. apply small amount of VERY well mixed, long-set epoxy to both parts. clamp/tape/WHY to window for a FULL cure before use. dont use a heater to speed the cure and dont let freeze. It will work

Re: Best Adhesive for 124 Spider Wing Window Latches?
I just latched my windows yesterday for the first time after letting them cure since last Sunday (JB Weld). The left side window has always been a very tight fit and the latch always looks a bit strained when it's closed. So far it is holding though. It only lasted about 10 minutes with superglue. I'll keep you posted on how this holds up. I think if it makes it a month it will pretty well last forever.
And thanks for the warning that JB Weld dries rock hard. I went out the morning after I mounted the latches and scraped away the excess around the edges. It was already very hard but was able do it. There was still a small place I missed yesterday and it is now pretty much hopeless to remove it without a chainsaw. That gives me confidence it will hold.

Re: Best Adhesive for 124 Spider Wing Window Latches?
If you have too tight a fit nothing will keep the latch on - although the glass might let go before the bond. I actually cut a layer of the weatherstripping back with a razor to make the window sit more flush. The weatherstripping was aftermarket, put on by the PO, and seemed to have a second layer that did little more than push the window out so it couldn't be closed.

I had my local Safelite auto glass technician re-glue the one that had come off. It took 30 seconds and has held for the past 1-1/2 years...

Re: Best Adhesive for 124 Spider Wing Window Latches?
Update on my JB Weld reglue: so far both sides are holding fast and they both seem very well stuck so I think this might be the trick for mine. I'll post again after a month or so. Nice to have nice tight seals with no whistling from the vents.

Mine too. One with epoxy, the other with JB Weld.

Re: Best Adhesive for 124 Spider Wing Window Latches?
After another month and a half, my JB Weld latches are still on very tight. That seems to have done the trick for me. Thanks for the advice.
