It's Back

Post by SeldomSeen »

Well I finally got the money pit back last week. Funny thing is, I am beginning to like the idea of having it. Driving the car feels like going home again. I had 124 spiders for so many years including my first car, that everything just feels right about the car. It handles, steers and brakes like a car with real soul should. The early 124 spider design is every bit as beautiful as my Alfa GTV or any of the truly stunning Pininfarina designs that Ferrari used in the 60s and early 70s. The repair bill was astronomical - more than I actually paid for the car. :!:

The mechanic is one of the best Fiat experts in the country. He was extremely thorough. The newly assembled and balanced 1608cc engine is VERY tight right now. Break in period will be around 1,500 miles. Besides that I bought five new Vredestein Sprint radials. Now I just need some nice dry weather to enjoy it.

Great news about getting your car back. After the break in you'll have to shoot a video so we can hear that 1608 in action as it goes past.

What carb are you running?

The video is a good idea. Will do. It has a complete new stock 124 Spider exhaust system. I love the sound of it. The carb is a 34/34 something-or-other Weber. It was on the old mess and Tom said it was practically new so we went with it along with an appropriate manifold. The car even has the original vented-disk steel wheels which are in great shape. They were always my favorite.
