Has anyone found the ultimate epoxy or whatever for this?

Everyone that has tried ended with disappointing results you may want to ask a glass shop .

I must not be everyone.
I used rear view mirror adheasive on both of mine (found em in the glove box) years ago and they are still on tight.
Now they'll probably both fall off next time I start car.....

Its all prep! Prep the spot on the window with some acetone/degreaser, some 600 grit, same with the latch, then hit them both up with a fresh towel and some acetone a couple of more times....then comes the epoxy, and some electrical tape stretched nicely to hold it for a good 24+ hour cure...done deal, wont ever come off. Just make sure and degrease before you sand any oils into the pores of the metal and glass. Good luck ;)

I use a two-part epoxy, the mirror adhesive won't get it done. I also use a clamp on them overnight

Does changing he window seals help? I prepped and clamped mine and they still popped right off because the leverage is just to great to get the lever latch to engage when closing.

Be sure you glue it on in the right orientation! Nothing worse than gluing one on just to discover you can't close it.

i've repeatedly tried the sand, clean, epoxy and clamp technique. never got anymore than 6 months out of the fix. new rubbers seals make the matter worse as it puts more stress on the glue joint.

Azruss, maybe get a pro paint degreaser from the local autobody store, it takes forever to dry though!

a quick cure epoxie is a brittle union
the slowest cure time is the strongest
and if you can find a dimond pen for the glass you can give it good tooth

Very timely post. I just glued my latches back on yesterday. I read that someone suggested JB Weld and that's what I used. I sanded the back of each latch with 600 grit sandpaper and I used Goof-Off to clean everything. It has a high volatility so it dries quickly. I then glued both latches and clamped them each with a cheap spring clamp overnight. I have not tried to latch them yet, I'll leave them a few more days before I do. I'll let you know how it turns out. The last attempt with Gorilla Super Glue lasted for a few weeks on one side and a few minutes on the other.

BTW, Some of the JB Weld squeezed out around the edges when I clamped the latches. Is there an easy way to scrape off the excess without disturbing the latch? Will a razor blade paint scraper work?

MrWampus:

JB Weld dries rock hard. I would take a small file and work off as much as you can then go to a razor blade or Exacto knife. Please let us know how things work out. I'm in no hurry to glue mine back on. So far I'm leaning toward the slow-acting epoxy and spring clamp idea.
