Smog Test Day.......Come On Spider
Smog Test Day.......Come On Spider
Well I fixed the fuel pump and took the car on a 50 mile drive this morning and all this time preying to the smog gods. Rolled in the test center and waited for the results............The tech said I was missing the rubber gasket on the gas cap and it would fail because of this.........went back and waited for him to finish the test............he came in and said sorry guy i'm afraid it passed with flying colors............WOOHOO...........He put his hand out to shake mine and instead I kissed him on the cheek.........LOL.......yes I did. My failed test showed % 5.73 CO this test came back at % 1.34 CO....So the fuel in the oil was the problem. I still gota sell the car but it was a great drive this morning only about 50 degrees out at 7:30 but I had the top down and had a blast.

Re: Smog Test Day.......Come On Spider
Ray,
When i took the fuel pump apart I found 3 small metal shavings looked like the same metal the pump was made of I would bet they have been in there since the pump was new. They caused a small seepage of fuel to get into the engine. I tested the pump when I took it off and just alittle bit of air could be heard coming from the vent hole on the pump, I figured the diaphram was cracked. After removing the metal shavings I tested the pump and all was good. Just goes to show ya, take it apart you never know what your going to find.
Thx.....TJ

Congrats! Now it will be much easier to sell with an approved emissions test.
