Tie rod ends

Post by s990wg3 »

I bought two sets of tie rod ends from vick autosports for my '76 124. They arrived in the mail promptly and after several hours of fighting to get the old tie rods off the car I started assembling the new tie rod ends onto the old sleeves. The right side off the car went together like a piece of cake one left hand thread, one right hand thread. The rod gets longer or shorter by turning sleeve thereby adjusting toe. the left side of the car has right hand threads on both ends of the sleeve so I can only assemble one end of the rod. My question is are the right and left sides of the car really different or is there something wacky with my left side tie rod. I could find no difference in part numbers for the right and left sides of the car in the vick catalog. I think my only solution is to get a new sleeve for the left side.

Just thought I would mention that NAPA carries some parts for our cars. I replaced my tie rod assemblies (no sleeve) for less than $40.00 Canadian. These parts also carry a lifetime warranty. They dont carry all the parts we need but just your local retailer and find out.
