New, old automobile

Post by spiderrey »

Just picked up a vehicle. Never bought any car or truck that didnt excite me in some way. I have seen many of these and never even gave them a second look. But the miles plus the price was a no brainer, and we all know, Im all about no brainers. :D

Toyota makes a really nice pickup. I've got a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 extra cab with 33,000 miles on her. Just got the 3.4 six.

The Toyotas are becoming more popular here. The Bush truck of choice are ford F350's though.
My buddy flew to San Antonio a couple of years back for $450.00 one way and bought a new one from a dealer there. Saved just over $18,000.00 in doing so. Towed a 32 foot para sailing boat back. He loves it good power and great milage for a big 330hp truck.
Vehicle prices here suck compared to the US. I could tell a couple more stories like the above.

If they keep letting you down, why do you keep buying them? I've got a 2000 Chevy Silverado with 175K on it and it will pull a house down. It's been a really solid reliable truck. My other car is a Subaru Outback. I'm on my second one and both have been very reliable and comfortable. I think I started buying Subarus partly in response to the unpredictability of owning my first Fiat. Funny, now that I have come full circle I have both ends of the spectrum covered.

Hope the Yota serves you well.

Wanpus, I dont keep buying them. Throught the years Ive had in excess of 25 cars
First toyota about 1981, used supra. it was a blast but had problems. 2nd toyota, 1986, new forerunner, problems. I was just looking for a deal and this poped up. '04 29,000 miles, good price. Easy decesion. I have owened just one chevy. Bought a new 03 silverado. Good truck, put 230,000 miles on it and sent it on its way. It was still running strong. I dont stick to a car brand. I get what I like when Im shopping. In 03 the chevy beat out the ford hands down. If I was to get a new truck todat it would be a dodge or a ford. Never owened a dodge but I really like the new ones. :D

I have a 2005 Tundra 2 dr 6 cyl (4.0L). I bought new. It has 138,000 mi. I replaced the tires at 95,000 miles, spark plugs at 100,000, and oil & filter every 5,000. I have replaced the front brakes twice and have yet to replace the rears. No problems with this vehicle. I hauled my Spider 200 miles home on a flatbed trailer, no problem. I love this truck.

I have had 3 other good trucks: 1969 Chevy C10 6 cyl, 1972 International Travelall 4WD w/392 (eventually rusted out and overheated too frequently); 1980 F150 6cyl (got t-boned). Bad trucks: My 1976 E150 6 cyl blew a hole in the side of a piston (where the compression ring is) and my 1986 F150 6 cyl was an all-around POS though the engine ran fine.

For full disclosure: I have owned between 25-30 cars. Many were early Toyota Celicas. I'd buy 'em used, fix 'em, drive 'em, sell 'em. Even bought 2 out of a junk yard for $500 for the pair, fixed them up for about $500 more, sold one for $1200 drove the other for 3 years then sold it for $1800. I Loved those cars. I also had lots of Honda Accords, air-cooled VWs, and Corvairs ('64 4-spd 110 was a fabulous car).
