Very nice. They look like they were made for the car. I'm sold. That is what I will be putting in mine when I get that far. I'm going to go for the smooth top ones to look like the early spider seats. Thanks for the info and photos. I was getting worried that I may have to go a different direction with the seats.

Keep me informed how your install goes. While I was waiting for my adapers I put one seat in and blocked it up, just looked at it.

from the photos of the new seats in the cars with brackets compared to my vintage ones, it looks like seat is 3 or 4 inches higher at least at where the top of it is sticking up. They also look like they stick up 3 or 4 inches higher than the stock seats did. but if people are saying they are not getting there head blown off on the freeway or hitting the roof when the top is up, that is good news.

I'm very Italian in build, 5'9" 160# long arms and torso, shorter legs, so I'm not worried too much about elevating the seat some. I was always amazed at how comfortable the seating position was for me. I would like to see what the difference in height measurements is between stock and these Procar seats with the brackets. I can measure the stock heights if someone has the measurements of the modified seats.

I always thought it was humourous that the loading capacity for the 124 Coupe was given as 4 adults + 40 kg luggage = 320kg. You are a perfect fit, and I'm also a light guy, but I would like to find 4 North Americans who average out to 70kg each, even back in the 60s.NCArachnid wrote:I'm very Italian in build, 5'9" 160# long arms and torso, shorter legs, so I'm not worried too much about elevating the seat some.

Just pulled the trigger on the seats in beige @$329 per seat. Should have them in a week or so. Going to post many pictures and dimensions once I get them. I have the adapters on order also. These seats came with sliders (which can be removed) so the over height will be interesting.

Re: Has anyone ever tried these seats? Pro rally by Scat
So, I went to look at a set of early (1988) Procar Rally seats today and drove 200 miles round-trip for the privilege. Looked at the photos the seller sent me and they looked in good shape, price was right, figured this would be an easy deal.
However, I got there and the seats, which were mounted to VW Beetle brackets, had mounting rails that were vertical rather than horizontal. The brackets were mounted to these at all four corners of the seat. Obviously there must be two different seat bottoms or mounting rail systems. The Fiat sliders, which mount on a horizontal plane, would obviously not mount to these vertical rails. I know that the style of Procar as sold now (and shown in previous photos in this thread) has vertical mounting rails too, but these were even different from that -- so it's not as simple as these just being modern seats (they weren't, old style reclining mechanism).
Just a word to the wise out there. Anyone know more on what could possibly done to make these work? Maybe a welded horizontal bar front to back between the vertical rails? The side-to-side mounting bolt spacing still seemed to be roughly on-par with Fiat seats (around 14.5 in).

Re: Has anyone ever tried these seats? Pro rally by Scat
Here's a question for those who have installed the old style Procars in their Fiat. I've just found and bought a used pair with the flat bottom that needs recovering. I wanted to do a trial fit in the car before making the commitment to have them recovered. For the folks that installed these before, are you using the Procar sliders or the Fiat sliders? I bolted the stock Fiat sliders to the bottom of the Procars (having to file and elongate one of the mounting holes slightly, as mentioned here to make them fit). Still, it seems that the Fiat sliders, mounted to the Procars, are not quite wide enough, off by just a couple millimeters, making them not quite line up with the stock mounting holes in the car. Did I do something wrong or is that accurate? Was I supposed to drill out the Procar sliders to make them fit? Totally confused... there's not enough room on the Fiat sliders to elongate the holes sideways. There might be enough room on the Procar sliders to compensate though. Otherwise, the difference is so small that I could probably just use some quarter-inch steel stock to mount either set of sliders to the holes in the floor rails. They'll work one way or another, just wondering what's easiest.

LStevens wrote:I have a 74 spider so my seat cushion sits in a pan rather than on straps like the later model years. My seat foam was atop soft in the back and as a result I would end up getting lower back pain because of the limited support. My resolve was to take the seat cushions to an upholster and asked if he could beef up the cushions as well as pump up the side thigh area like a recaro. He said he would do what he could within the space that the seat material would allow, but if i really wanted the recaro look he would have to remake the seat cover to fit the extra padding. Since my seats had been reupholstered some years ago and still in great condition and didn't want to go through the expense of having new covers made up, I told him to do what he could. What he did worked out great - I got a much firmer seat cushion that gives me better support and the sides got bolstered up a bit. What he ended up doing was carve out part of the old cushion along the sides and replaced it with new firm foam. He also added a 1" layer of firm foam on top of the existing seat cushion for added support. Needless to say I achieved my goal not to mention my buns, lower back and pocketbook are happy campers. The guy only charged me $40 per seat cushion for a total of $80.azygoustoyou wrote:You can't get the early foam new. You have to find used of put in new foam from the later cars. I have used really firm newer style ones if your interested.
I'm in the SF Bay Area, too. Can you tell me who did your work? I am going back and forth between new Procar seats or re-doing a pair of originals. But all the upholstery shops in my neck of the woods (Marin County) want ridiculous prices, in the area of $6-$700 EACH! And I'm just talking plain vinyl.
Thanks.
I brought my seats to an upholstery guy and asked him to beef up the existing foam

Re: Has anyone ever tried these seats? Pro rally by Scat
Ok, so I finally got my new Procar seats installed. I know I promised a write-up so here is what I did.
I purchased two of the Procar Rally 1000 smooth top (closer match to the original pattern). I also purchased two universal seat adapters. I had a friend of mine weld in one extra cross bar to each universal bracket. I then marked the bracket to align with the original holes in the seat mounting towers on the floor pan. I drilled out the brackets and then ground the welds smooth and repainted them black. I bolted the brackets to the floor towers with the original hardware and then test fit the seats over the brackets. I found that I had to trim off 2/3rds of the mounting tab on the inner, rear tab on each seat in order for the seat to mount at the lowest position possible. Even with lowering the seat as low as possible, the seat is still about 3/4" taller than the original seat (mostly because of the thicker seat cushion). I haven't driven it much with the seats mounted, so I'm still trying to find that just-right combination of tilt and slide. The seats are far more comfortable that the stock ones, so I think that after I get the right position I will be very happy with them. I still haven't reinstalled the door panels and center console so I don't know clearance yet. According to my pre-disassembly measurements I should have about 1/2-3/4" space between the seat and the console and a little more between the seat and the door panel.
Here are the pics....
Universal seat brackets. Red bar shows where I welded in another cross-bar. Circles show the holes drilled to match the stock seat mounting towers.
Top photo shows clearance. A little tight towards the console. Plenty of room towards the door.
Seats look good in the car and the upholstery nearly matches the original (see stock back seat). I added some lap belts to the back for the kids.
Best view of the bracket with the seat installed. Right rear tab trimmed down so it will clear the floorboard when bolted in to the lowest slot.
Not a hard modification, especially if you know how to weld. Might not work well for those bigger or taller drivers who can't tolerate the seat cushion 3/4" taller than stock.
I'll post more pics when I get the carpet in and reinstall the console.
