Tell me why...

Post by cutchaguy »

...that when I was replacing all of the other rubber hoses (brakes, cooling) it never occurred to me to replace the fuel lines at the same time.

It occurred to me Saturday when I left a stream of gasoline behind me and I felt like Wile E. Coyote just dreading someone dropping a match on the trail I was leaving.

Fire department was dispatched to make sure no major environmental hazard was being caused...they all admired my '81 though...and they said they were surprised that with the amount of fuel being pushed out, that it didn't vaporize, get in contact with the muffler, and set my car on fire.

AAA took it and me to the shop...which was fine because I was taking it in anyway as they wanted check the work they did after 500 miles to see if the repairs they did were holding up.

which line(s) let go. The injector lines are notorious for drying out and leaking. As you know, the alt and starter are right below the lines...bad mix fuel and electrical stuff. Lucky today and thanks for posting. Everyone learns from these things when posted.
I now remember to take my wedding band off after getting a good zap when installing the thermotime switch under the intake manifold.

Replace all the fuel lines, even the ones under the car by the fuel pump. Also check the filler hose, located behind the left rear outer quarter panel. There is a shield next to the quarter panel under the car that is removable separately, they might be able to check it by removing just that.

The line cracked just after the fuel filter, but any place is bad. The shop is replacing the hoses today/tomorrow. My assumption is that they corrode drone the inside out. I'll have to remember this as part of the maintenance schedule.

Check the fuel injector hoses. My first parts car was the victim of a split hose fire. Good luck

Was that the one that you had to come the whole way to central Pennsylvania for in the rain at Thanksgiving? :D I'm assuming that it is long gone by now. Did you get many parts off of it? I guess I was the start of your parts car obsession.
