i have a brother who paints million dollar cars that are in shows:) he will tell u, u are a fool to paint your car if u have no experience
but each to your own
i guess it all depends on who looks at it at the end and how close

I agree that I would be a fool to try and paint a show car by myself, even with limited experience, but I am really focused on getting a few layers of paint on my car that will look shiny from 15-20 feet away and has a nice clear on it for protection. I want to do something about the see-through coat that is currently on my car and put something on there that will last a good while and protect the sheet metal from rusting away.

Is it standard practice to fill this seam if yes are you using body filler or ???

Hope you took the advice of baltobernie and didn't fill the seam. My body mistakenly filled part of mine on one side and it cracked (body flex) and had to redo the area and paint

As a cabinetmaker I agree that painting metal is easier than wood but my take on the DIY is go for it. As you said, whats the worst that can happen. Im betting you will be more than happy with your results and only you or someone really meticulous will be able to spot the flaws. It sounds like your car can only be improved and you will have a new feather in your cap.

Baltobernie, in that picture you initially posted, am I crazy, or is the guy crazy for not covering skin, face, hair, etc while spraying paint? Wouldn't it be better to at least have long sleeves, a painter's hat and some kind of eyewear and face covering?
