Fortunately I have access to full body suits and respirators though school, so we are good on that front. I'm thinking that I want to do a rolling restoration/moderate clean-up, so I don't think I will be removing many body panels or putting it up on a rotisserie.

In case you were wondering, this is what I'm starting with. The pics are from the day I brought it home. I polished, clay barred and waxed the hood and it turned out nice, but the paint is thin and I can see through it. It is chipping in some spots and I know that I will have to do something about it eventually.

Brady, I do like your idea about having a pro do the final step. How much would it cost me?

Also, I found this source for paint, what do you think? I'm stuck between Midnight Blue and the Sapphire Blue Metallic.

I'm debating painting my car myself. To quote the guys from Top Gear "How hard could it be"?

And cue the [A-Team] Music!

I'm pretty sure I can do it, the challenge is in finding the right balance of quality paint and low cost...Looking for suggestions.

I'm all four members of the A-Team all rolled into one.

Anyway, I have the benefit of having a parts car to test out on. My thoughts are that properly prepared and keyed, a rattle can job can make a nice five footer / driver. I'm a couple of months away from getting serious with that part of the project.

Ever see Edd China do his magic on "Wheeler Dealers"?

If you are going be content with a rattle can paint job, you can probably buy some cheap automotive paint and a cheap HPLV gun for less than it would take to buy cans to cover an entire car. Do you have access to an air compressor?

I do. Rattle cans have come a long way and I've had some great success painting some motorcycles I've restored with them. The trick is in the prep work.

There was even a thread not too long ago about a guy's adventures with a roll-on paint job!

I've seen that, and it's awesome. Seriously, anyone around here know about the UK TV show "Wheeler Dealers" and the Majesty that is Edd China?

I don't think this was done with a roller. But it would have probably looked better.
