Stupid me!
Stupid me!
As I was pulling out of the garage this morning, I didn't realize the drivers side door wasn't closed... So the door hit the edge of the garage on the door latch. I think the hinge may have bent slightly because I have a slight bit of rub between the door and front quarter panel and now the latch contacts the post but is about 1/4 inch too far forward to seat itself. Is there some type of adjustment i can make to the door or am I screwed?!

Re: Stupid me!
I don't think the issue would be with the hinge. They are really heavy duty. Look at the frame around where the hinges connect to the car or the door has been tweaked. If so, you could probably use a hammer and straighten it if it's not in the door.
Re: Stupid me!
I am frustrated because the latch needs to move to the rear of the car about 1/4 of an inch. Part of the problem is that the latch is what hit, and I think some of the interior handle parts might have bent slightly as the clearance between the latch and the door frame is less than that on the passenger side. Not really sure if a body shop can help with it but I don't think it's a mechanic issue either!
Re: Stupid me!
Not sure exactly what got bent but you can unscrew the hinge from the body and make a spacer or use washers to go in between the hinge and the frame so as to offset the door rearwards. If the gap between the door and the front fender is correct when the door is closed than this wont work.

I used to work in a body shop. I agree with 124 Joe. A good shop could help you out.

Re: Stupid me!
Maybe the door adjustment got messed up? You can adjust where the hinge bolts to the body and where the hinge bolts to the door, (some of the bolts are under the door panel).

Re: Stupid me!
Thanks for the help guys. The latch that I'm referring to is on the thick part of the door, between where the interior panel is and the outdoor door pull. I might try the adjustment Allen screws, but if that doesnt work the I might just have to take it to a body shop...
