Remember. We are not normal people. We already own a Fiat.

The purpose of the commercial is go get people talking about FIAT.

People says they Hate the commercial or people saying the love the commercial.

The effect is still the same. It can get more regular people to recognize the FIAT brand.

We don't need to be sold the FIAT Brand. But regular americans need to be told that FIAT is back.

I don't like the commercial either. But I like the fact that people I know who don't have Fiats are talking about the commercial.

Mark, Your post is predicated on the Hollywood concept that there is no "bad" publicity. I'd argue that is not true when it comes to cars. If an ad is designed to provide "image -- as this one clearly appears to be -- then the image portrayed has to be cool and hip. This one, I think, is not. It feels forced. And to me the message is that the dancing only starts after you are out of the car. Watch it again as see if I you don't agree.

At the risk of being deemed too serious about the purchase of a new car...

FIAT's choice of a content-free ad campaign headlined by a vapid celebrity of dubious merit does not communicate to me the right message concerning their attitude toward the US market in general and commitment to the 500 in particular.

I'm not one of those millionaire FIAT Spider owners I keep bumping into around here, a new car purchase, even at "only" $25k, is still a commitment I can't undertake cavalierly in this economy. There are a lot of fun daily driver choices out there at that price point, none other redolent of old slapper and disdain for the enthusiast driver.

It would seem the car buying public at large agrees with their overwhelming lack of actual purchases, 'buzz on the street' notwithstanding.

...I can't imagine buying a new 500 Abarth come next Spring, but I'll bet I can pick one up used in the Fall at a deep discount, after some "he-man" tires of hearing 'oh, it's so cute, that's the one JLo wore to her Grammy's!' for a whole summer.

Me thinks that If we spent as much time analyzing and fixing our own Fiats' flaws as we are spending analyzing Fiats advertising strategy, the Spider would qualify for a JD Power "used car quality award!"

Yeah, they should have used a sexy Italian woman at least! J.Lo is getting a bit long in the tooth. On the flipside is this commercial, one that isnt bad, funny, colourful or creative, it just makes you want to drive and do it fast....and then a little laugh
