Stearing wheel spacer

Post by BillF »

I am to tall for my 81 Fiat Spider and need to buy a 4 or 5 inch spacer that would bolt under the stock stearing wheel so I can get my legs under the stearing wheel. Does any one have any ideas.
Thanks
Bill

Man, Bill, you must be 7'2". Had a 6'4" friend with a coupe and he fit ok with the seat all the way back. Also had a 6' 5" friend that owned abarths. He would put the steering wheel between his knees when he drove. Okay, Okay, enough with the BS. I have only a couple of suggestion and none of them will buy you 4-5". I dont think that is doable. Idea one: put on a smaller diameter steering wheel. Idea two; you could pull the column plate that bolts to the car frame. then shim the back 2 bolts to give the plate an angle and thus raises the steering wheel. The problem with this is it changes the angle of the column and could create a bind when turning. It will also put the wheel at a more horizontal angle than stock. It will also lower the shaft under the dash. Might interfere with big feet. Last is to modify to a indy-style removable wheel. Have never seen one up close, so have no idea how tough of a mod this would be.

If they made this for the fiat, you could take it off every time you entered.
