eliminating the heater core

Post by josh76 »

Hello

I am looking to remove the heater core from my spider. If I bypass the heater circuit by connecting the head directly to the heater pipe is this going to cause the number 4 cylinder to run hot as it would be taking off the pressure side of the water pump essentially bypassing the radiator for all the water that would flow through the heater pipe?

Is the best option to block off the heater pipe port on the water pump and plug the port located on top of the head? That would make all water flowing through the head go through the radiator once the thermostat opens. Does this make sense?

I am pretty sure I have heard of a lot of people doing this without any bad side effects.

I had the heater valve in my car start leaking on me (luckily it was right after I had taken my girlfriend home!) Since living in florida I dont have much use for it I thought about bypassing it, just ending up replacing the valve though.

you can bypass the core by looping the heater hose without any ill effects. The water still circulates from the block to the head around all 4 cylinders.

Josh,

Good luck running the defroster on those rainy days you just gotta drive the Fiat.

Heat is not the only issue the heater core addresses.

Just a thought.
