Body Side Molding

Post by scampbel98 »

I've got a 1980 Fiat 124 that i'm about to undertake bodywork and paint on. Great runner. It's got the side molding just like the red fiat on the FiatSpider.com banner (just look up). How is that attached? Welded? Studs? Screws?

I'm curious if anyone else has removed it and/or thoughts on removing it or where to source replacements?

Thanks in advance

Take a heat gun and heat it. Take some fish line and work it behind the molding pulling from one end to the other.

If it has the rubber/plastic in the center, grab that and pull it out of the chrome groove. Then you will find rivets. I put a ton of that stuff on when I worked for Datsun.

I have a 1981. Did it come stock with that molding? I always wondered. Be gentle! If you want to reuse it.

Alot of the newer stuff is plastic and uses double sided tape, as posted above. Much of the older stuff was an aluminum strip with a vinyl or rubber insert. If you have this style, you can peel out the rubber and there will be rivets or screws below.
