prior to painting your car

Post by puddin »

had a local paint shop paint my car a year ago looks great-- then my right rear tire blew out on the hiway and the steel cords scratched the quater panel -- so then begain the process

i looked up the color as a GM Red Hot Red-- couldn't find a duplic color spray can to match. didn't have the $$$ to get it respray by pro again.. so i bought 4 cans of the closest reds i could find and they don't match -- seems like duplicolor doesn't make the color -

so my suggestion to to find a color that is "supported" by duplicolor just incase you need a quick or cheap spray can of it....

Not really. A spray can will never match a color from a body shop paint system or an oe finish even if the correct code is used. Spray can paint is different material and cannot duplicate the finish or color from real paint systems, especially when metallic base clear finishes are invloved.

Most auto parts stores that specialize in paint and body products will have the ability to mix any color in an aerosol can (if that's what you're looking for). Do you still have the paint code from the original spray? If so, take it in and have them cross reference it. Of course, you'll have to assume that the person that mixed the paint originally mixed it to the proper specifications, as well as the person mixing the aerosol can. There's lots of room for error when trying to duplicate paint mixes, but it's worth a shot.
