As I am restoring my 81, i have to deal with some rust on the doors, inside the door jams and under the area the rocker panels install and under the hood. My intention is to paint all these areas with Eastwood rust encapsulate. I realize that it is standard to have these area the same color as the car....but, is there any reason my idea would not work or be stupid? I will eventually bring the car to get painted (a different color than it is now). Will this make the paint job harder? I would leave those area black and just have the exterior of the car painted.
Thanks.
Robert

Re: Painting
Personally, I would hit with desgreaser OR wash rusted areas, remove rust with sand paper/wire wheel, Hit with EPOXY primer, plastic filler to smoothe and then some more primer; your car will then be protected from elements until you can take it to a painter

I like the idea of a rust converter before encapsulating. wire brush/sand first to get to the base metal. your idea of just encapsulating will show the pits. if you want to get it flat, bondo and epoxy primer will do the job. I have some doors that have been epoxy primed and sitting out in the weather for 2 years. just pulled them in for a finish sand and the primer was still in great shape.
