Re: brake reservoir hoses
I went to the parts store and for some hydraulic rated hose. That's my recommendation. I am not sure how long fuel hose would last.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!
Re: brake reservoir hoses
Guess I'll try that out too. I am having a very hard time with those hoses! LOL

Re: brake reservoir hoses
Auto Ricambi sells them.
Re: brake reservoir hoses
I would NOT! I don't think that their is a lot of pressure in those lines but thier has to be some reason that they are braided.
Re: brake reservoir hoses
The 2 lines from the res to the master cyl are not under any pressure. They are just cloth woven coverings on hyd hose. Swing by a napa or someplace that does hydralic hose work and they'll hook you up with cloth braided hyd hose. Get the Vac and other misc hose too while your there. They are all probably dry and crunchy under the hood of a 30+ year old car. Summit has then in diffrent colors if that floats your boat. You can replace the clamps with "fuel injector" clamps so they will match the other clamps under the hood.
Re: brake reservoir hoses
Thank you sir. I've got a place down the street that does hydrolics. NAPA was no help

Re: brake reservoir hoses
To save a couple bucks find a VW dealer or parts supplier. I'm pretty sure that is 7 mm hose and you can buy the blue 7 mm brake hose for the master cheap at these locations. no need for special order. Buy a couple feet and cut to the size you need.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Re: brake reservoir hoses
In response to the original question, No, just any hose won't do. Brake fluid is not compatible with conventional nitrile or viton rubber used for fuel, vacuum, water, etc. Brake fluid will eventually soften and leak through any of those hoses not made for brake fluid. All the braiding does is help shield the hose from the heat so that it will last longer.

Re: brake reservoir hoses
I have just been down that road with my 126.
Had to fit a new master cylinder and as the top fittings were different and the existing blue/green see thru hoses were old & stiff, thought I'd be smart & replace them. DOH !
I bought fuel resistant plastic hose and it lasted 10 days before it exuded brake fluid over the entire outer surface, full length. Looked like condensation on the line from a beer keg (if u know what that's like) BAD.
The brake shop said they did not have anything ( or wouldn't sell to me coz they weren't getting a job) & hydraulics place who do forklifts & excavators had nothing small enough and said that rubber EFI line was no good and nylon air line is far too stiff, so I ended up buying chemical / solvent resistant line in a reinforced synthetic rubber. Been about 6 weeks and seems o.k.
Perhaps living in the US, you can have better luck obtaining that blue/green plastic hose that Fiat used or what your car plants use ? Your Chrysler plants are now owned by Fiat I recall ?
That bluey colored stuff is marked "brake line" down the side of it.

Re: brake reservoir hoses
Thought I finally made it over a hurdle. NOPE. Got hydralic line. It is reinforced with metal mesh. There's no way this will bend to fit that tight corner. This is so frustrating. I'm tired of wasting my money.

Is this the stuff?

And is there anywhere else on the car I'd use this or will 2ft be fine?

Re: brake reservoir hoses
Looks like this and is made in Germany. Good stuff. 2 ft will be enough.
