Carpet underlay?

Post by Doctorwire »

Hi guys,

Does anyone know where to get the sound-proofing / fiberglassy underlay that goes between the carpet and the floor of the car?
I don't think it comes with a new carpet set and my original underlay is pretty bad to non-existent.
Maybe someone knows of a carpet set that comes with it?
Any help would be great!

Thanks!

I got some at a local upholstery shop. A yard and a half did it. I used the carpet as a template to cut the pieces.

I purchased a couple of sheets of RoadBlockR.

Its butyl rubber with a high adhesive peel and stick backing. If your floors have good paint on them this will stick to it and it's easy to cut large pieces and small pieces if you have gaps.

Thanks for the input guys!
The roadblockr material sounds like a great idea. How much did you have to buy to do your car and also, did you notice any difference over stock?

I purchased (3) 24 x 48" sheets of RoadblockR. It was enough to go from the under the pedals and heater valve to the wells behind the drivers seat. It also covered the tranny tunnel. It makes very tight corners and you can overlap or seam over any missed spots. After welding new steel into floor I sprayed the area with a ruber undercoating. The RoadblockR adhered to this and painted surfaces without any lifting. After this I covered the RoadblockR with Jute padding a carpeting from World Upholstery.

I will attempt to attach a picture of the RoadblockR after installation or send me your email.

I got my carpet padding at yourautotrim.com
They have just plain padding or padding with a foil heat shield applied, the plain is thicker.
