I have done the same sort of thing with the engine hood. Ran a light wire from the lock through a small hole accessible from the front wheel well. Works great in case the interior cable breaks.

I have keyless entry. I need to add something to the lock in case something stops working. I was thinking of a pull or something. What do you think?maytag wrote:Me too! I added a door-lock actuator to pop it open with a hidden pushbutton in the passenger compartment. When I add the keyless entry, I'll make that one of the contacts.TulsaSpider wrote:Hell I just removed my lock lol
Re: HELP PLEASE
since the battery is in the trunk, you need an emergency release in case of a dead battery. Or a charging post under the hood so it could be jump started

My spare keys are under my back seat in a zip lock, but don't tell anybody.
Re: HELP PLEASE
the starter post isn't the most accessible spot under the hood, but go for it if you can get the jumper cables down there

that's what the hole behind the license plate is for!So Cal Mark wrote:since the battery is in the trunk, you need an emergency release in case of a dead battery. Or a charging post under the hood so it could be jump started
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!
Re: HELP PLEASE
Midwest124.com might carry them but last time I checked their web-store was down.
Re: HELP PLEASE
Plenty on ebay but you just need to make sure you get the right one. But, any GOOD locksmith should have a blank that will do the job, just not branded Fiat on the tab.spiderron81 wrote:Where can I get spare key blanks?

If you have a look at your car or at your handbook or at your workshop manual, it will show you that they installed just this "safety devise" at the factory.
It is normally a simple loop tied in the end of a piece of grey/gray coloured/colored plastic coated cord, you should find tucked up under the dash above the pedals / behind the column. Assuming that some bozo has not thought 'what's this junk" and cut it out !
Re: HELP PLEASE
You mean like they did in the Alfa spiders ? They used a mechanical pull mounted in the (passenger?) door rear post, next to the latch. That way, when the door was locked, the boot was too.maytag wrote:I added a door-lock actuator to pop it open with a hidden pushbutton in the passenger compartment.TulsaSpider wrote:Hell I just removed my lock lol
Perhaps designed for Valet parking ? you keep the door key and the spotty driver only has the ignition key and goodies in the rear are safe ??
Or perhaps they just wanted clean lines ? Others like Rover hid catch releases in the trunk/boot for fuel filler doors for similar reasons.
The trouble with modern elec entry is when your "KEY" battery goes dead. Some BMWs do not have any doors with key blade/manual open facilities.
