Braking Problem - pulls to right
Braking Problem - pulls to right
When I brake, the car pulls to the right. I thought it might be a frozen left calliper resulting in only the right calliper working causing the car to pull. I checked the left calliper and it was not frozen and the piston contracted when I pressed the brake peddle. I am not sure what to check next.

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
Have checked the bleeding to each of the brakes, making sure no air in lines. Start with let front, then right then the rear. Also good chance the control arms are shot. If you jack up the front, and try to shake the wheel are you getting some motion. I had the same, except pulled to the left and the arms were original. Ball type joints fail. There are 3 of these, left, right and center. Not real hard to replace , but will need to re-align the front end afterward.
Let us know.

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
as Dana said, looseness in the steering can cause a pull as could air in the line. Besides the piston sticking, the slides on the caliper and bracket could cause the problem also. Besides looseness, poor alignment can contribute to the pull.
Does the steering wheel turn when braking hard? If not, it could be a rear caliper sticking

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
I had and still somewhat have the same problem, I need a ball joint but I also had an egg shaped tire(s) from sitting for a while and now that I got new tires the car pulls far less... no more fighting while breaking but there is still a little tug on the wheel to the right. (hopefuly the new ball joint will fix that little bit that is left) something to concider if your breaks etc are good.

I had a similar problem, and it was a brake hose that was the culprit.Over time they can get debris,so 1 brake is getting more fluid...causing pull.

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
I had the same problem from the day I bought my car and thought it was front calipers/hoses too. Replaced those, but still had a pull (turned out they needed to be changed anyway, so it was good I did). Ultimately, a front end rebuild cured the problem. Seems bad ball joints, steering components are a major cause of this problem.
Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
Thanks for the reply. I will start with the easiest - bleeding the brakes, brakes hoses and go from there.
It does seem to pull more the harder I hit the breaks, for whatever that is worth.
I may need some tips on how to replace ball joints if this does not do the trick.
Thanks

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
if it changes intensity based on the effort you put on the pedal, it is more certainly the brake equipment and not the suspension.
clean the caliper mounting points, change the hoses and bleed the brakes. bleed the rear brakes as well after you change those hoses.

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
I had the same issue. I bought the car with a new front end. Then after I noticed the pulling to the right upon braking I changed the brake lines and bled the system..same issue. What worked in my case was greasing the locking blocks. I now grease them first thing in the spring and half way through the summer season it will happen again and I regrease. Seems to work every time. Plus I dont drive it all that much so they might get a little stickier than normal...and the car never sees any weather issues...not even rain.\

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
what are you using for grease? If you have to do it twice a year it sounds like you're using the wrong stuff
Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
This worked for me. I replaced everything in the brake system. After driving a while, the brake would stick on the passenger side and make a horrible noise. I put grease on the wedges and the noise and pulling to the right went away..

Re: Braking Problem - pulls to right
I've been using a special Toyota caliper lube. It seems like a super thick silicone grease and really stays put. It's been 4 years and my slides are still well lubed.
