I found this add on evilbay

It says it's a 78 spider 2000, which brings up a few questions

All the pics support the "2000"
The vin tag say 11/77 so yes it would be a 78
(FYI I have a 78 built 10/77)

But it says CS1 which is an 1800 right?
CS0 is the "2000" right?
in 79 w/ the 2000 they were all carb'd right?
wasn't till 80 they were available with FI right?
Tail lights were still the square in 78 right?

I know some of the late 78's had the flush door handles but whats w/ the FI engine.
I think it must be an 80 or newer thats the only way it makes sense to me.

This is NOT to raise any red flags about this seller or anything like that! It's a nice car!

It's just my OCD or something as I'm learning all the ins & outs of all the models

the tail lights give it away as a late model car 79 on your right about the FI 80 1/2 on so its either a
80 1/2 - 83 with the wrong Vin Tag which looks a bit fishy to start with all the rivits areas on the tag
are damaged ! I would guess this car is a number job .

It would be more interesting to see a pic of the stamp on the firewall and compare to the door-jamp tag (pictured) and the vin-tag in the windshield.

I bought a '79 2000 once, with a "2L FI", which wasn't supposed to exist. It turns-out it was actually an 1800, not a 2L, but it DID have the FI from a 2L. I think Spiders with unknown history are like Forest Gump's box of chocolates.....

I currently own a '66 CS1 Fiat Spider 1800.... according to the title. Of course this will help when it is time to do emissions testing

You never know what has gone-on in the history of a car... unless you were there for it.

I thought the Fiat 124 spider debuted at the November 1966 Turin Auto Show, and production models started at 1967. A 66 would be an "AS" model, and the 1800 would be a "CS1"

What is your chassis # ??

I would agree that this is not a 77/78. The steering wheel is later, the wheels are later, the stick shift knob itself is later, the tail lights etc. Would also like to see the door jamb plate compared to what is shown.

Matt, I think i failed to make the point..... my car is clearly NOT a '66. based on everything else about it, I think it is a '76. But at some point the DMV titled it as a '66, which doesn't hurt my feelings as I'm prepping a motor for it that will never have to be smog'd. I was only making the point that unless you have been with the car for its entire history, you don;t know what that history holds. caveat emptor (or however you spell that).

I think that ad is a scam. The "listing format" in the ad shows "Chinese." The 1977 CS1 nameplate was riveted in (the rivits are really big).

The car is clearly a 1980 Spider, you can always tell the 1980 because the FI plenum had a removable heater unit on that model year only (later models had the heater cast into the top of the plenum). It also has the oil pressure gauge removed, the Spider 2000 name plate, the ass-high Spider 2000 stance, and so on.

That exhaust, however, is the true masterpiece.
