--Fixed--Replaced Several Items car does not start

Post by markpink »

My car was out of commission for a few months while I was out of work. Been working again for a few months and just finished installing several items.

Car was working before with a intermittent start issue with the starter.

First of all replaced Voltage Regular. Because I was seeing 16-17 volts at Battery while charging. (That's why I burnt out some electronics and other batteries).

Secondly replaced starter with gear reduction starter. (the person who designed the starter mount is evil)

Lastly, the replaced the exhaust manifold header with chrome headers and a new down pipe.(Don't see how this is a issue)

Now The car turns over fine. The starter works, but the engine does not catch. I have 12.5 voltage at the coil.(and I had a brand new bosch coil already in my inventory, so I swapped it out.)

The ignition uses a fireball 3000 electronic ignition conversion. (No points).

Car turns over nicely. But does not catch. The car worked fine for the 4 years I had it before I replaced the starter.(I don't see how the compression could have changed during the starter install which is why I didn't test it).

I can't seem to get spark from a spark plug wire or the wire from the coil.

I am trying to get it fixed to go to the Big Larsz Tutto Itailano show Museum show in Boston this weekend?

I thought I only had two wires at the Dist side, but it turns out that I am going blind. I have 3 wires gong into the optical sensor.

How do you test these fireball units. I have the one that doesn't have a LED.

thanks

Mark

Hey

I fixed the problem.

It turns out the control unit for the Fireball 3000 was fried. I got a new one from Amazon.com(at a great price) and installed the new control box using the existing optical sensor and the car started right up.

Thanks for the advice.
