Carpet Stock Interiors

Post by psg »

I recently purchased new carpet from an online company called, Stock Interiors in SC. The price was very good and the advertised product said it was OEM equivalent jute backed carpet in multiple shades of color. I received the package in a timely manner. The carpet color seemed significantly different than expected and the carpet is fairly light weight. I have not installed it yet so I cannot speak about fit.

The main issue is related to the text used to advertise the product which I have copied from their website. The website states, ... "the mildew resistant jute padding is heat bonded to the backside of the new Fiat 124 Spider carpet kit"... The carpet delivered does not have a jute backing but a quarter inch lightweight white foam rubber. I contacted the company and they apologized indicating this model comes with foam rubber and they do not offer it with jute. I was then told I could return the product at my expense but I would only be refunded for the price of the carpet after they inspected it. They were kind and generally responsive but did not address the issue of their misleading advertisement which exists in at least two locations about their product being jute backed. We came to an agreement they would send me the equivalent jute and I will make the product work. This carpet is not useful for a moderate or high end restoration. It is not equivalent to the OEM carpet but will suffice to cover the floors.

Soaks up water just like a sponge. It is glued to the back of the heat bonded carpet.

I would get rid of that stuff and buy a roll of the Lowes indoor out door stuff stuff that is a good visual match and dirt cheap. They just buy some good quality backing of your choosing from and upholstery stuff and have the few piece that need it bound at a car interior place. Use your old stuff as templates. PB

I just did this one, the underlay I used is the cheap $15 dollar camping mats from canadian tire (any outdoor store/walmart), the blue ones with closed-cell foam..they work great, been on 3 trips now and the car is much quieter with the top up and you dont feel the tranny tunnel heat as much. I just fastened the stuff to the floor with thick coats of contact adhesive and then glued the carpet to the foam in the same way
