Koni's Yellow shocks

Post by azygoustoyou »

I did a search on google for Koni's yellow shocks and can't find them in stock for a decent price. Has anyone found a good place to buy these?

This used to be the cheapest price. They were around $87 earlier in the year.

I bought them from tirerack.com earlier this year for a special price of US$90 each but they are now $112.

I gues anywhere in between this price would be a good one????

Auto Anything has them for $104 but of course can't get them for our cars. Tire Rack is probably the next cheapest but they aren't available till mid next month.
Anyone else have any luck finding them. Do they have sales at certain times of the year or just whenever?

I have an old pair of KYB's I could throw on for now. Maybe I'll have to wait.

I was able to get them here for $104 and free shipping. Plus without the wait of getting them.

I bought this Spider about a year ago. I love the car for a few reasons. 1st, because my mother had one just like it when I was growing up, and I dreamed about getting one for a long time; maybe some of you know how that is. 2nd, because it's so easy to work on it. And third, because I love its design.! Anyway, the car is in great shape, never since snow, etc; but I was not happy with the way the suspension felt specially in the front. I got a set of KYB excel G Twin Tube front shocks (30.00 each on ebay or so) I must say that the car simply does not feel right or any better than before. Previously I had the original brown colored FIAT shocks from the factory (1979) which I think got damaged from sitting in the 1st. owner's garage for so long. So, I removed them from the car. Once they were out, I could not manage to pull them open or close; they were frozen for some reason. For this same reason, I got rid of them I got these KYB'S. Furthermore, I got new upper and lower arms, since the bushings were also going. So, now I wonder if getting a set of yellow KONI shocks would make a big difference. What do you guys think? They are so expensive, but these KYB's did not make any difference at all, the car feels bouncy and terrible. i would like to ask to the experts, are these cars smooth at all. I know they are old technology, but should I expect to have a rough ride. I could settle for that really. I don't really want to spend so much money in shocks, although it's tempting.
Please, give me some advice. I am just a FIAT amateur and really need help. Thanks so very much

I put a set on my 80. They lowered the car about an inch after the KYB's. I also have the IAP red springs.
When I put the Koni's on I also installed the 1 inch front sway bar. The handling and ride has improved considerably compared to my last set up with the KYB's, one coil chop on rear spring and stock front bar. I went back to non chopped rear springs.(IAP-reds)
How are the bushings and other suspension parts? All would be for naught if the tie rod ends , ball joints and rubber bushings are all loose and sloppy.
A great winter project is to freshen up the front end if it is still stock and looks tired.

Thanks Chris,
Yeah, I checked the front end and replaced one tie rod end right after I got the car, the other parts are tight and nice. Both sides control arms are new, including the bushings. The bushings were the reason I replaced the whole arms. Strauss Auto did the alignment back in March. It is just the roughness of the ride that puzzles me. I may end up getting Koni shocks. Oh,
and those red springs are a temptation. By the way, do the springs affect the way the alignment is adjusted, camber, caster, etc.? I saw them on IAP yesterday. They on my wish list already. I did also cut a piece of my rear springs :) just for now. It looks nice, before looked like a crab
Thanks for the advice.

Use those Koni's since a couple of years, with standard coils minus 1 coil front and back.
Ride was much improved.
Changing coils will change camber etc settings.

they are worth it, they are the best. Set on full soft-the ride handling and feel of the car will be transformed. The first time I drove a spider with the yellow konis I immediately bought them and put them on my car. The spider was never designed for a positively charged gas shock. I don't know anyone else making a quality hydraulic shock, but a hydraulic is a much better choice than a gas shock for these cars. The koni's will last a long long time.

Btw, iap just sent an email saying konis are 15% off right now. 99.96 each. I'm sorta considering it, but I know I've had trouble with iap parts fitting, as have others. But if they're konis they should all be the same model number and fit.
