Are your headlights flush with the chrome rim?

Hi all,
I have had two people comment that my headlights look like they sit too deep behind the chrome headlight rims. Right now there is a noticable gap (like half an inch) between the glass and the chrome rim.

Questions:
Is this normal?
Is this something I can address by just adjusting the headlights?
Is there some sort of gasket I am missing?

Anyway, if anyone has picture of what a "correct" headlight/chrome rims set up is supposed to look like, if they could post it I would appreciate it.

I never took much notice of the gap so I don't know for sure what's "normal", but I just measured mine and it's 0.51 inches. Looks like the orange Spider on the FS.com logo above has a similar gap.

there are 2 styles that I know of the newer spiders there is a big gap, the older spiders are almost touching. and if you buy new the come the new style

Yup, newer ones have a bigger gap for some reason.

you fill the gap nicely with chrome mesh rock guards and fuel line

I had been admiring that you had the grills on the headlights & now I know how you did it.
Very good idea!

FYI on my 78 there is about 3/8" between the lights & the trim rings.

I keep no secrets ! I am here to help anyone and everyone. if someone wants to now how i did something I am more than willing to share.
the rock chip guards are from a Jeep cj5 or early 70s VW. than you buy fuel line. sorry dont remember the size.you'll have try try a couple diffrent sizes to see, keep reading to see why. cut the fuel line to fit. than cut a slit in it from end to end. wrap around the mesh. putting the mesh in the slit. than supper glue the ends together. sandwich both pieces together between the head light and chrome trim ring. hassn't move over 3000 miles to date. fills the gap Nice !

The E-code headlights I bought are much flatter than the DOT code and fill the gap nicely.

Thanks all - this is very helpful. So it looks like the gap is "normal", but can be corrected by using "E" rated lights, or the creative make-a-seal-out-of-fuel-line technique. Both very helpful ideas.
