What bad luck! Could the auxilliary shaft cause this? It would probably be easier to pull the engine out of the car to check the bottom end.

No the aux shaft is also free turning. Your probably right on pulling engine out, dont know what I could determine if I talk the head off first.

better just to take it out, there isn't much you'll be able to fix with the motor in the car anyway. ow was the oil pressure?

Mark, dont know what oil pressure was, dont have oil gauge, dummy light wasnt on though, cam boxes looked like plenty of oil was in there.

i have a '74 1800 engine for sale. running when parked due to severe cancer of the underbelly in June of this year.

I will make you a sweet deal, but you gotta come to Michigan to pick it up.

No deliveries.

Mike thanks for the offer, but I spent to much on the one thats not working. I pulled the engine, and the#2 connecting rod bearing is the problem. This was also my original problem.I took it to the machinist and I had the crank done and put oversized bearings in it, along with replacing the rod. Im not sure what happened? The bearing didnt spin. Im pretty sure the oil passages were clean, but the bearing looks like excessive wear,as compared to others. Plan on taking crank back to the machine shop, any other ideas, suggestions would be welcome. Ted

I'm wondering if the oil passages in the crankshaft were checked and/or cleaned since the problem is the same this time around. What undersize was the crank ground to? Did you check clearances after assembling the lower end?

Mark, bearing size.010 over. This is my first engine rebuild, but im pretty sure I plastigauged the bearings. I did see some metal filings inside the crank journal hole,I ran an insulated wire through hole, and had some filings come out. If I did it right I miked the journal it was 50.55mm does this sound correct? (2liter?). If its within specs,I have a thin line on the journal with a small burr in the center, almost as if came out of hole in journal. Can this be buffed out, with crocus cloth or something else? Ted

if the crank isn't scored too badly it could be polished. I'd also get the rod checked to make sure it's round

Ok, the rod is new,I had it replaced with original problem. Thanks Ted

but if it froze up, I'd get it checked and by all means clean the oil passages in the crankshaft

The oil pick up for the oil pump can get clogged up. Id check the oil pump carefully.
