Historic, Classic, Regular Tags?? NJ

Post by dville »

Please excuse me if I've missed someone's post on this, however I am totally confused on this. I did register it (1979 Spider) with regular tags. My insurance w/ American Collectors says less then 5000 miles per year. All OK, but I've seen in some posts to get QQ tags. Do I need to inspect it then? I still have a few days left to get it inspected, but it's been raining for days here. Is there a Classic category? I've gone on the state.nj site, but I'm sure there's glitches to everything they do. Any feedback or clarification would be MUCH appreciated.

Hi dville,

Most of us in NJ have QQ plates. No inspection required and you only have to register the car once, that's it. Here is the form and information.

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Vehicles ... amples.pdf

They say only use is for show purposes and so forth but I've never met anyone who's had a problem driving on the QQ's.

Be sure to get the pictures right, I had to go back since I didn't have the correct view.

Real easy, just be sure you have all your paperwork, title, registration, insurance form, pictures and this form. I got it all in about 15 minutes.

I assume your insurance is cheap. I'm with Haggarty's and I'm paying about $160 a year for max coverage. They will match the coverage that you have on your street cars.

What are people getting for appraisal values on their Fiats for insurance?

Haggarty asked me what declared value I wanted on mine and I said $10K. They said fine.

I don't imagine they care about apprasals for cars under $40K or so, as long as the request is reasonable, not that I have any other experience than my Spider.

Thanks, Doug! I'll get everything lined up and then head over to DMV for a change. I'm with American Collectors, and even matching my "regular" car, it's only $82.00.

Just saw this post. When you head to DMV make sure you head to a Regional DMV agency. Can'y get QQ plates at the local DMV office. Where are you located in NJ. George

I did see that - with 2 little kids and the long weekend, I don't think it's a go. I have lots of things I'd like to start doing, and am trying to read up on this and your site. I'll get there at some point! Thanks - and Happy 4th!
