Make's you cry
A local millionaire had his Ferrari California stolen over the weekend and burnt out - (only 5 of them in Australia worth $500K)

Well, at least it was "just" a 2010 and not a 58 - 62. That would have really been disastrous.

Looks like that high temp brake caliper paint holds up pretty well.

I am a HUGE car enthusiast, but I didn't shed one tear.
Just wondering what the purpose of the theft was. Had to be joy ride. Where's the market for parts if there are so few of those cars? I'm sure it was insured and now the owner has a 2012 model and still doesn't know anything about cars except that you can go real fast in one that costs a lot of money.

Pretty devastating looking pics, but you're right. It doesn't stir any emotions for some reason. Now, if it were a Fiat, I'd be sniffling.

Re: Make's you cry
I'm with Denise. Fabulous and gorgeous car, but IMHO, Ferrari has, like so many high performance machines today, become too close to being an "appliance" - albeit an expensive and incredibly competent one. Somewhere along the way, (the 80s?) autos, even "super-cars" made that transition from "car", to "appliance" - from noisy, and hard to drive and unreliable, to super comfortable, practically self-driven and totally reliable - and to me, less fun to drive. When I want to change my attitude about the commute to work, I don't change radio stations or the CD, I jump into one of our non air conditioned, noisy FIATS. Somehow, even modern Ferraris don't tug at my emotions much anymore.
But, it is a crying shame that this fabulous appliance was destroyed.

Re: Make's you cry
My disdain with the super/sports car manufacturers is that they seam to have lost their core values as simply a racing/sport car entity, and now want to appeal to the mass market. ie Porsche SUV's and Ferrari 4 door commuter cars. I guess in today's market and economy they need to branch out to survive. How many $500K Ferrari's can they sell in one year? Will those resulting profits even cover the rent and payroll at the factory, maybe not?
I remember as a kid in the 80's (showing my young age) seeing a Porsche 911 was a once in a while treat. Now I see 20-30 on any given day on my way to and from work. I think in Honolulu Porsche's have become the default sports car, everyone has one. But it always makes my day when I pull up next to one at a light and the Porsche driver looks over at my spider and says: "Nice car". Little does he know that my car cost 1/100th of his and I get 100 times more satisfaction from mine. Yes, it is a nice car.

Re: Make's you cry
I've driven one, didn't really care for it-too insulated an experience, fast, handled well, convertible, but no soul, kinda ugly, esp. for a Ferrari. I would rather have a Mercedes if that is the experience. These modern Ferrari's seem a bit prone to catching fire on their own too.

Re: Make's you cry
the responses here actually surprised me. didnt expect to see so much negativity. As a craftsman who has created many things, it breaks my heart to see any item of such beauty and technical prowress destroyed for any reason and i'm totally offended by someone destroying such items "just for the kicks". We all know how we would feel is someone simply "keyed" our beloved fiat. i'm sure the ferrari owner feels equally violated, regardless of whether it is covered by insurance or if he can easily afford another one. I'm not sure how this came about, but we have turned into a society that feels animosity to anyone who has achieved or attained something beyond our reach, and we seem to revell with glee at anything that brings pain or hardship to them. I wise man told me one time that you can never become what you despise or dislike. If your goal in life is to be successful. how will you ever reach it if you dont admire and strive to emulate successful people. BTW in my vision of success, being wealthy isnt even in the top 10 attributes of success. peace, bros!

Re: Make's you cry
Azrus, heres the difference for me on this subject. Ive never driven a Ferrari, but have admired them. I dont have any emotions of this car being destroyed other then it being done on purpose. This though would be the same for any car. I have no empathy for the owener becaue Im sure its covered by insurance, and if not he bought one Im sure he can buy another. Also, its not a classis that was brought back to its former glory, its just another new car. Its not like Denises or Alvons car because there was tons of effort ,sweat and love poured onto them to get them where they are today. Lastly I try not to emulate anyone.
Re: Make's you cry
I didn't mean to come off the way it might have. It's wrong, it doesn't make it more or less painful because of the guys wealth. I was merely trying to state that I feel just as bas as if it were my neighbors hard earned ford focus.
I'd be more upset if it was a single $500 X1/9 that spontaneously combusted in Shaun Folkerts garage. They aren't making those anymore, THAT would be a darned shame.
