Anyone chrome an older steering wheel ?

I have an older steering wheel and was wondering if I could chrome the spokes . I was wondering if anyone else had or if you even can do it?

When you figure it our let me know. I've been thinking about chroming my steering wheel as well. I don't think the chrome paint option will look very good. My steering wheel is looking a little tired in comparison to the rest of the interior. I can paint it black easy enough but think the chrome look would really set things off.

I was going to paint mine. After taking the die grinder to it with a polishing pad. Realized it would look nice with a brushed aluminum look. So I polished it, took a square sanding sponge, and wiped it in one direction. I then clear coated it with a spray can. Check it out. :P

There you have it! No paint needed. I really like the look of that wheel. nicely done. in the abscense of a die grinder what would you recommend? I have a dremmel and a lot of patience.

Seriously, I am thinking a household drill with 3 (coarse, medium, fine) sanding discs should be able to get a nice surface to then polish and wipe clean, add the clear coat. I'll give it a shot. Thoughts before starting?

I had thought about a chroming my wood wheel, but than a friend was talking about my dash and reminded me about the sun being behind me and the blinding reflection. so I changed the direction, i went with my dash. I am thinkfull to him for that.also never got around to figureing out how the chrome my wheel without removing the wood and if I removed it, how to put it back and do it correctly. i hope you find something you like and can live (drive) with. just my 2 cents

Go to Harbor Freight and get these for your drill. This is what I used. Use the red pad first then the blueish one. Be light on the wheel when doing the blueish one. You'll need the end to put the pads on. These are 3" wheels. They have it all next to each other at the store. If you have a compressor, you can get the die grinder for $10. It would be easier because it is lighter. If not, a drill would work.

Don't known if my wood wheel would just polish up like that . Not too worried about the reflection because i have seen so many chrome wheels in the cars
