I am working to restore the black leather gear shift cover on a 1975 Spider.. These parts were missing when I got the car and do not understand how the lower ring was originaly attached,
Along with the new shift cover, a straight peice of of channeled light weight metal about 15 inches or so was incluhde with not isntructions as to how to bend it to fit was encluded in the parts order..
How is the cover attached to the conslole hole with the metal ring..??
I contacted the vender and i got very vauge intstructions.
Need some help with this one...
Thanks
Bobby

Re: Installing new grear shift cover
Ok I am going from memory and that can be dangerous... you put the new cover through the hole, then put the end of it over the bit on the reverse then fasten the band over it, thus holding it in place. The band goes under the cover... hope this helps, hard to explain.. anyone have a pic?

I'll take pic's of my console tomorrow. It's sitting apart in the garage. The cover is still attached to the console.

You definitely need the metal ring to hold the boot onto the console. It looks like it goes around and presses the boot against the wood trim. Looks very easy to deal with.
