bad day
bad day
started today out doing realy good. got up early washed the car put some wheel dressing on cleaned the dash and seats. put the top down.got on the road in pleanty of time to make it to Bousae bash 2011. driving along had a really good looking woman flirting with me from her jeep ,till she turned off at her exit. a few more miles down the road my exhaust got real load real fast. pulled off the next exit into a auto zone about 10 miles off the expressway looked under the car where i thought it would be broke. but no looked at the hole pipe i could see under the car nothing so I opened the hood to my suprise i had broke off 5 out of 6 bolts from the header to down pipe. Ack !!!!! so after buying a wrench, ratchet, socket that I have 4 of each at home. and buying some studs and nuts. and sitting in the boiling sun waiting for the car to cool down enough I can get my fat hands into work on the war without leaving my fleash. I was able to get a bolt in the only hole that didnt have a broke off bolt in it limped the car home and took the exhaust manifold off and hoping I can get the old bolts out, i have really bad luck with drilling broken bolts out ! I have never won ! they get me everytime
Re: bad day
Man, no luck for you, huh? I can't believe you broke off that many bolts. Time for a down pipe upgrade while it's all apart.
Re: bad day
That sucks. If you've had bad luck, a machine shop will do it for you. Otherwise use a punch to set a point to drill. Start with a small one. As you drill use a bit of oil. drill for a minute then stop and let the drill cool. If you keep at it and heat the drill up you will dull it and it will stop cutting. Be patient, slowly increase drill sizes. Fro them all to break it sounds like the exhaust system was under stress, Have a good exhaust shop look at it when it is back together. PB

Re: bad day
If you have a MIG welder, I've had good luck putting a nut over the broken bolt and welding it to the inside of the nut. The break needs to be close to flush or above for this to work. Sorry to hear about your day
