Fuel Pump Problems

Post by 666ogre666 »

i have a 1969 spider and Ive been slowing trying to get it to work over the last couple years and just recently I rebuilt the carburetor and when I put it back in and turned it over I didnt get any fuel to it so I pulled the fuel pump and pumped it by hand and it worked fine, reinstalled it and nothing. Is it possible the problem is from where it installs on the engine?

I think there is a lobe on the aux shaft that works the pump. Take the fuel hose off the carb and point it into a jug. Crank the motor and see if the fuel pumps out.

Is the float set correctly in the carb? If it's way off, I suppose it could be closed all the time not allowing fuel into the bowl.

Is the fuel filter clogged?

1969 spider uses a 1438, there is no way the aux shaft can be hit in that motor, only the 2.0L has contact with the aux shaft if out of time

I know the pump works because when I took it off the block I could pump it by hand and get fuel coming out where it would go into the carb. But no I dont think there is a spacer. There wasnt one when I took it off unless I just didnt see it.

you didnt see it, there is a 3/4" approx spacer. without the spacer the fuel pump arm is too deep on the shaft and is not getting the effect of the cam action. you need the spacer. it is also a heat isolator
