After replacing a worn out alternator I have problems with power for the ignition
When I turn the key there are no problems with the starter and the headlights, but no power for the ignition.
Since there is no power for the interior light, oil pressure lamp, clock, seatbelt alarm and signal I would expect a broken fuse, but the fuse is ok.
The problem is not permanent sometimes I’m lucky and the ignition and everything works.
Can anybody help me with this problem?
Is it old relais?
I thank you in advance !

Re: No Ignition
Let us know what you have. What year? Points? If so are they dual or has it been converted to single? Electronic? You have checked for power at the coil with the ignition on correct?

Re: No Ignition
Are you saying that nothing happens when you turn the key? This sounds exactly like the problem I was having. Check out my post "Starter fixed" about the wipers. See if your wiper switch is on. Other than that, I would check for shorts. Especially if it works now and then.

Re: No Ignition
Also check the red and brown wires that run near the alternator. There is a connection there that is flaky. Pull it apart, clean the contacts and you might solve the problem.

Re: No Ignition
You may have a bad ignition switch. The "run" position contacts in these old switches often become burnt and intermittent.
