I think I just scored some free wheels!

Post by spider79 »

I have to share the excitement with someone who might care.......

I drove my Fiat to work yesterday and today for the first time. I have it parked out in front, and my neighbor in the strip mall noticed it and came over to talk to me about it.

To make a long story short, he asked me if I wanted some wheels and parts. Seems he had a spider 20 years ago and has been storing them in his basement ever since.

I asked him what he wanted for them and he said "My wife will just be happy if I get them out of the house."

He's bringing them to me Monday.

Dan,

I have no idea what they are until Monday. He said they were "Fiat Turbo Fin" wheels?

I sure can't complain about the price!

Mark,

You are SO right. Within the last month I was offered an X19 if I'd come and get it. My wife like's the spider, so I'm off the hook there.

However, she's had plenty to say about the three Mustangs and two Jeeps clogging up our driveway.

I told her last week that "I'm turning our house into Joe Dirt's one vehicle at a time"!

Crap, if my free wheels are 14", that means my 13" tires won't fit. We'll see Monday.

Rick
you have to replace the tires some day. and when you do they can be 14"!!!

there's a huge demand for 14" wheels, so they're very saleable if you choose not to use them

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm excited to be able to run a lower profile tire.

However, I just bought the 4 tires on mine two months ago. One advantage to 13" tires is that they're dirt cheap, though. I think I bought all 4 tires for less than the cost of ONE tire on my mustangs......

i was joking. you don't want it, it is a parts car. i am literally cutting the sheet metal up now for scrap.

gotta have at least one parts car, right? keeps the useful parts in the system, and saves the salvager some money for big projects.

Oh, I just figured you'd scored something in the last 24 hours you were keeping a secret. Old cars have a way of multiplying when you least suspect it.

you haven't met the gate keeper yet, have you?

Her first name is Mrs. - and Mrs. says "ENOUGH!"

The MRS's don't always seem to follow man logic when it comes to cars......

For instance, my warm weather driver for the last 9.5 years is a 92 5.0 mustang convertible. After 9.5 years, it's time for some maintenance, and I sure can't complain, because it's given me 103K miles of service with only normal maintenance. I've got to put it up on jackstands and replace the power steering rack bushings, front suspension bushings, solve a leaking front timing cover seal, and do a serpentine drive belt. Doing it overtime without stressing will take a couple weeks, and I need some spare parts anyway.

So, two weeks ago I got offered an '89 hatchback with 90,000 miles for $1200 in good running condition. It's got way more than $1200 worth of new wheels, tires, rebuilt transmission and engine in it, all within the last 3 months. Of course, I bought it. Literally, the car was almost as cheap as new tires on the 92.

Let's just say although my wife is excited about the Spider, she doesn't exactly see another mustang that way......
