Starting Problem Solved

Post by katsi »

Here's an FYI for any of you guys or gals who may encounter the same problem.

Every once in a while when I hop in my car, I turn the key and nothing happens. No clicking, no nothing. So, I usually have to charge the battery and then it starts up again  . I know, hold on I'm getting to that  . It's was not the battery or the alternator. It's not the charging system at all. You see, this problem always happened AWAY from home leaving me stranded and calling for a buddy to tow me home. The last time this happened, my buddy, the one who always gives me a tow, was messing with some things and then all the sudden, she fired right up. I asked what he did and he looked at me and said, I don't have a freaking idea. So I went home and found out that if you flip on the windshield wipers, the wiper motor pulls too much current so the car seems dead. Couple this with with extreemly poor operating windshield wipers and you get a situation like I had. And, I always seem to hit that wiper switch with my arm or something when getting out of the car.

Solution: The wiper mechanism was almost rusted together. The different arms would barely move when the car was running and never when it was not running. I buffed them clean with a wire wheel, painted them with some rustoleum and applied an ample amount of grease. Now, they operate like new. Even without the motor running. And, if I accidently hit that switch, the wipers go on AND the car turns over. NICE EH

That is just the sort of obscure info that can make an owner bless this Forum. Thanks for sharing! :)
