Removing Pin stripping....

Post by cjc »

Anyone ever try removing the pin stripping? I have a 81 with 449 dark blue paint and light Blue pin stripping. I'm thinking about removing the pin stripping. I have a couple concerns 1) how to do it and 2) worried that it may leave a shadow on the 30 year old paint.

Thanks

CJ

I used a hair dryer and a well worked in putty knife to remove mine on a maybe twenty year old paint and i was happy with the result. There is maybe a very light shadow but I prefer that over the stripe. It changed the look of my car a lot.

There is a buffing wheel made for this called the erasor. It works good, but you may still see the difference in the paint fade. Wear a mask too.

i have a dark blue 76. it came with light blue pin strip. my brother hand waxed it off about 30 years ago. it did leave a mark that was visible for a few years. it came fairly easily.
