Fiats on Rodeo Drive

Post by Exit98 »

The Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance will celebrate "The Art of Italian Motoring" on June 19, 2011, 10 - 4 pm. The 2011 Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance has announced that Italian brand FIAT has been selected as the event's honored marque. This year's event will celebrate "The Art of Italian Motoring" and will feature more than 125 vintage Italian cars on display. The annual Father's Day event will take place on Rodeo Drive, Sunday, June 19, 2011 and is free and open to the public.
Pretty Neat. I hope some of our LA Spider guys will check this out and give us a report. Ventura Ace, how about displaying your beauty there?

I've heard this is a very neat show. Mucho Ferrari's and other Italian exotica.

Our '70 124 spider is pre-registered, as is Gary Poage's '69 124 spider. I haven't heard of others yet. Anybody else on this board planning to be there?

The event is free to any one that wants to show up. Classic car entry is limited to Italian heritage cars 1975 or older, if I understand correctly.

I'm not sure how I'll fit into the atmosphere at Rodeo Drive, but I'll wear one of my nicest Fiat shirts! I'm thinking it is going to be quite a special Father's Day. Our son has told me that we plans to be there, and that's mighty special to me. Hope to see a bunch of you there!

Adan Figueroa and I will be there with a couple of Lancias.

And, Alvon, don't worry; it's a very casual atmosphere, exhibitors and spectators alike.

I believe that the deadline was in the first week of June, but you might try contacting Fred at fobogardus@aol.com to see if there is still room for entries.

They probably took the entry form off the web site when the deadline passed. It's still free to go there and hang out.

Didn't take my camera, but there were a lot of interesting cars. Alvon and his Spider were there, but other than the 500s, which occupied an entire block (including test drives), there weren't many Fiats there. I think there were only two other 124 Spiders, two 850 Spiders (one looked like a '68- refitted with '67 flush headlights), one X1/9 (listed as a '74, and had '74 bumpers, but actually a later Bertone), and a reconstruction (bitsa?) of a brass-era Fiat. Oh, and of course David Sydorick's 8V Supersonic...

Even fewer Lancias--only four, although one was a Zagato-bodied Flaminia Sport that has taken a handful of awards, including Pebble Beach.

Nice show, nice day.

Give me a few days to download some pics. It was quite a nice day, and very well attended (really crowded most of the day). As Ed said, Gary Poage and I were there with our early 124 spiders, Sam's blue 850 spider and another really nice black one were there, Robert's X1/9, a couple of very nice later model 124 spiders, 2 gorgeous Dinos, Ed's friend had a few Lancias (Ed's Fulvia is in works with an engine rebuild at present). We also had the new 500 PE there (#18), and the Fiat folks displayed between 2 old classic 500's, and adjacent to that display were 14 new Fiat 500's of every color, plus 6 models that were being offered for people to test drive (including 2 new Cabrios). Boris and Rachel had their new 500 model on display that had installed many new features of their product offerings from 500 Madness. There was also a very nice display of several old miniature Fiats including a rally-race-modified classic 500. Ron Luxmore drove down to enjoy the show, but didn't display (show was geared pre '75 cars). A Father's Day to remember! It seems like everybody brought their dog out for exercise as they walked the street to see the cars. I've never seen so many beautiful, well-behaved exotic breeds of dogs in all my years. It was as much a treat to see the dogs and the people as it was the cars!

This video from Fiat 500 USA has much better pictures than mine:

I'll add a few more when I get time.

Very nice video Ventura Ace. Thanks for posting. What a wonderful collection of beautiful Italian cars. Where was yours?

If they hold it next year perhaps I will try to get my car in there...

Thanks again for the post!

It's held every year (though this was a special all-Italian year, which probably won't be repeated soon). Regardless, it's a nice show, and you can keep track of it here: http://www.rodeodrive-bh.com/CNC/CNC_about.html
