I had to drop my tranny out one more time due to a boo boo on my part.. I went to Harbor freight and purchased 4 - 6 ton jack stands. Much better than my old ones. Old gave me 16" height max. New ones give me 24" with a wider base for more stability. Makes for a much easier job when messing under the car.

Hi, all. Be patient with me as I'm knew to all this. I'm a virgin at all this and need to pull the engine and am wanting to pull it seperately from the tranny. What kind of wrench is used to access the four bolts that connect the two. My manuals refer to a "long reach socket spanner or Fiat tool no. A55035". Should I be able to do this with just a very long extension and accessing from underneath? Or is there some distribution wrench that can be used and accessed from the engine compartment?

i use a 36' extension with a 19mm swivel socket, not a swivel and a socket. a deep 13mm swivel socket for the starter bolts and out it comes

Thanks Beek. Although I have pulled a few engines,I've done the 3 extension and universal and socket thing. A bit of a pain for sure. I've been meaning to get the proper tools. (36 foot extension? :wink: )

Thanks to all that contributed to this thread. I managed to pull the engine an trans as one unit - used a leveler and it worked perfect. Did the whole job by myself in an afternoon. The Guido was a bit** but the rest went pretty well.

My engine hoist could barely lift high enough as I had the front of the car on very tall jackstands to allow me more room under the car - be careful if you try this...

I bolted two chains to the block using bolts in the head holes. One front, one back - cross corners. Bought a couple feet of chain - and some bolts - connected the chains to the leveler - used an air wrench to move the leveler back and forth. Quick and easy - and when by yourself, you want the right tools at hand.

Just remember the backup wire and the ground connectors......don't ask me how I know ....oops.
