Question on VIN

Post by tdskip »

Hi folks - thanks for the help on the other thread.

This Spider has a bit of a sad story - owner died and car sat at a shop since 1999. She now has lien sale papers from being stored, which isn't a big deal but I believe the lien sale company screwed up the paperwork. Here is what I pulled from the car;

02-73

124cs 0065629

Could someone please confirm that is a correct VIN for that date range? The body stamping and VIN plate on the driver lower corner windshield match.

Thanks for the help getting her back on the road!

Mine was built in 7-73, and has a VIN about 5,000 units higher than yours, so your numbers are probably correct (or we're both wrong!)

VIN's were standardized starting in 1981 so if you were confused by the format(124cs #######), auto manufacturers had free reign over the format of VINs until then

could also be a car left over from 70-71 and not titled till 73. Here in mich that happens more than you would think. I think they changed the title law when they started figuring they where running low on vins and added another number or numbers 78 ish ? I Could be wrong
