Just when it was going so well...

Post by tonyfromjersey »

I have had the car running great, thanks in no small part to my NJFiats friends who helped me de-smog the car. Well, tonight after my son's baseball team inexplicably won its playoff game, my ignition key broke off in the switch leaving me stranded. Thanks to George, I have a line on one from his 79 parts car.

In all honesty, this cheap ass after market Lada switch has been acting a little funky lately anyway, so it was only a matter of time. My poor car is sitting in the parking lot at the baseball fields feeling very lonely indeed. :(

Oh well, its a relatively easy fix, and George and I can drink some beer and laugh at my car again.

I bought one of htose after market ignition switch, I should have saved my money as I repaired my original one (it was a lot easier that I thought) but did somehow lose the c clip and had to salvage the cheap aftermart unit...

It's shot, it spins around and around. I was trying a screwdriver to see if I could get the old one out, but gave up in the dark and will have the car towed home so I can put it in the garage.

I did the same thing :(, turned the key while it was half way in the ignition switch. Luckily It was in the run position and was able to push start it.

Car is safely home thanks to AAA premier service. He even helped me push it into the garage. Old switch is out, with a little persuasion from a hammer. Since it was freely turning it was hard to get it to stay in the position to release the lock. I got it partway out, then just beat the crap out of it and got it the rest of the way.

I won't be rebuilding that one anytime soon.

Hopefully get the new switch from George tomorrow and back in business.
