Buggered up Cross Member

Post by scottys »

Well the saga begins,

I picked up this relatively rust free 79 fiat. I checked for bad shock towers "very clean and rust free" I check for body rust- passanger side no bondo - driver side only a little bondo on rear quarter "Not bad" I pull up the carpet "Wow floors are still intact with just some surface rust here and there"
PO states "to many projects and not enough time to drive her" I bite....
On the way home Steering seems a little lose. 15 miles later the steering is getting real lose. I park it at my shop and tear into it. Look what I found.
So does anybody have a crossmember for a 79 they would like to part with?

100 miles from Forks as the crow flies,
But to drive it almost 4 hrs due to the fact that it's on the Olympic Peninsula.

Well, I got the old one out. It's in rough shape. I don't think I can patch it back together. Cracks all over
So I'm looking for a replacement. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I met someone about a week ago in Kirkland at a 7-11 and we talked about spiders, was this you? Anyway, I'm in Des Moines and will take a look at my parts shed to see if I have a good crossmember.

No, it wasn't me.
I'm always willing to talk spiders anyday.
If you have a decent crossmember that would be fantastic. Even if it needs a little TLC. I have a mig welder. I have access to a tig welder. I have the abiltiy to due basic fabrication in my shop. It's just that my cross member is shattered. I can actually twist it by hand not to mention both studs on the driver side are hanging by a thread. And this is after the PO had welded it up.
