top install questions

Post by leftfield6 »

I'm installing a Germanex canvas top on my 83 Pininfarina, and have a couple of questions I would like to get some input on.

A) My brand spanking new, absolutely beautiful and unmolested canvas top does not have cut-outs or any kind of provision for the side cable to be pinched into the little clamp at the top of the rear quarter window. Should I cut small access holes? The thought of intentionally cutting into this top is a little off-putting.

B) Do I use a rivet on the front and rear of the side flap that seals against the top of the door windows? A total of four rivets, two on the driver's side, and two on the pass side. I've seen Fiats WITH these rivets, I've seen them WITHOUT. I've also seen instructions that say to do this, and instructions that never mention it. :?

I asked these same questions in someone else's thread, but I think they were buried by a misleading thread name.

You could touch base with Craig Nelson and get the number for the guys that did his top install. They aren't that far from us. It was cheap enough that it may make you decide to let a professional do the job. That way you can sit back and relax, knowing it is all being done correctly.
If you still want to do it yourself, let me know when you want to tackle it and I'll be happy to give you a hand. After watching professionals do my top, I know I could have done mine. You can get the multi-switch at the same time :)

Hi friend.

You must do a couple of small holes as appears in the picture:

Be sure the place is correct using the frame as reference, is not difficult.

Hope this will help you:
