Gary Poage and Alvon Elrod have elected to drive Gary's 38 year old spider to ItalianCarFest (near Dallas) for the final round of the Best Spider Challenge. They depart Tues. evening about 6 p.m. (Pacific time) and head to Tuscon. The next morning they depart for the final leg of the journey.
ICF opens for the public 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 22, 2007.
The Seattle spider owned by Dan Rian is already in Grapevine, Texas.
The San Francisco spider owned by Niels Uni is on the way by transporter.
The car from North Carolina is being trailered by the owner Denise Burchette and departs the east coast soon.

In the eleventh hour the trailer we were going to use didn't quite work out. So we'll see how far we get. Maybe we should sell squares for different locations where we might get stranded. At any rate it should be an adventure. The car is in good working order - Alvon and I changed the timing belt and the idler pulley on Saturday. The week before I did a major tune on it, new plugs, ignition wires, two new fuel filters, took apart the IDF's and cleaned the jets, new Mobil 1 and filter. So we shall see how it goes. It is almost 39 years old and does have 250,000 miles on it I hope/think it will make it. Look for vultures circling for our location!
