parts compatability

Post by narfire »

Down in the cars for sale section there is a coupe for sale, price has come down significantly over the last year. Wonder, other than the engine, are any/many parts compatable with the spider? ie rockers? seats?
Car is about an hour from work in Summerland on a gravel road.

I think the seats are different, the centre consoles are the same, window winder, inner door handles, inner arm door rest, gaunges may be compatable.

the spiders and coupes share no body parts or glass. The seats are the same. dash is different. instruments are the same, engine and driveline the same. I also think suspension and steering are the same. There are 3 different body styles of coupes. looks like the 2 newer models share alot of the same bodywork.

Chris, unless the better half would kill you  you'd better buy that coupe. I don't imagine it will ever be possible to find another one close enough to haul. Worst case scenario, I take it off your hands  But I can't see him going that low. He does like VWs though, so if you can find on to trade him plus a little cash... Otherwise, I think the best you will do is $550 or something like that. By the way, did you get the '72 registered yet?

Body wise nothing will interchange beyond the front cross member.

Mechanically most things will interchange with the exception of the drive shaft itself which is a different length due to wheel base.

Electrically the major parts are the same but in different places and with a different loom. The turn signal lever assembly, the switches and instruments are the same.

The front seats I believe are the same.

The bodies of these cars are a specific Fiat design more related to the sedan (whose floorpan the coupe was based off of) versus the Pinninfarina engineered Spider chassis (there is probably more related on an Alfa Spider or a Peugeot 404 convertible also made at Pinnin).

As a Spider donor its not of much value. As a Coupe it really is valuable in and of itself. The issue for most looking to buy one is the fact its in Canada and not as easy or sure a sale as going to another state.

Unless the car is a basket case I would hate to see it broken up. These cars are very rare and destroying one although not a crime, isn't doing the Fiat hobby any good. Of course it moldering into the ground isn't a good thing either.

Should per change you wish to buy the car and part it out I have a list of parts I would like to acquire:
Both door handles, the driver's door, the driver's side front fender, wiper motor and transmission assembly for sure and possibly some other parts.

The B and C coupes have many similarities visually but are more different than the A and C versions in most areas. The C coupe was heavily changed to make it an easier car to live with and to accommodate 5mph bumpers and so on.

The center consoles different on Coupes and Spiders, they look much the same but in fact are very different.

Think I'll see what it might cost to have a car carrier pick it up and bring to Summerland. I'd figure 3 hours return tops.
When I looked at it a couple of years ago,I thought it was salvagable. There was rust around the rear window and I know other spots need attention as well. The better half would...well not be happy to say the least but then again she does not come out to the shop and we(SHE) have a rule about cars in that if they come home they are running and insured.
Launie, we'll stay intouch about this as I likely would not be able to get to it till next year but I can store it here where we don't get much snow or moisture. I do have the green 72 registered and am trying to find time to put it back together. Have the front suspension and rear on and emerg brake but juice brakes are next before anything else.
Stay tuned, don't change this channel :o
