Lowering my Spider

Post by ajnsbdfr »

Has any one Lowered there Spider?
I have a 1980 Spider, would like to drop it a couple of inchs, without screwing up the ride to badly.
I have seen after market springs that would drop it 1", but I'm not sure that will help the high water look.
Anybody have any sugestions?
Thanks

You can always cut the springs...

the handling got screwed up when Fiat jacked up the ride height. 3 ways to go. hit the usual vendors for springs, relieve someone of their early spider springs (I put 71 springs on mine), or cut your current springs. been much discussion on mirafiori.com on this subject and how to actually do it. cutting the spring will give you a slightly stiffer ride. (same weight distributed over fewer coils).

I have uncut springs for $25 if you want to experiment.

Take a look at this, is in spanish, but plenty of pictures and diagrams:

I´ve used shorter springs to lower my Spider, and added new Koni adjustable dumpers. The result is fantastic, much easier cornering, but too hard for bad roads. The springs came from Germany, about 180€ (240 $)

Hope it helps
