what can a person do to stable the springs in the back of a 69 124
tires are a tad wide and when i hit a bump with a rider the tires rub on the flange. i am thinking of getting different tires so they are in the wheel well. but there got to be another way to go around that
thanks

Re: tires to wide
I am not sure, so double check with a expert 1st. But pretty sure the new spiders have taller springs that might keep you off the tires
Re: tires to wide
How big are your tires? What kind of wheels and what is the off set? Did a former owner put in spacers and could you remove them? Maybe new springs could help if the car has been sitting on the old ones for 43 years.
Does it happen because of potholes or in curves?

Re: tires to wide
Definitely springs will help.. shocks too if yours are old... If you were to get springs from a later spider they are taller and stiffer you could cut them down a little to get the height you want and also avoid hitting the rim at the same time. My spider has p225/50r15's on the rear and p205/50/r15's in front and it used to occasionally scrub in the rear until I put the later springs on it and shortened them... Mine is a 72' spider.. I purposely prefer the wider stance and my tires are right at the out edge of the fender both front and rear... on the front i have retrofit coil-overs so the front has been adjusted to not scrub...

Re: tires to wide
Stabilizing the rear end could mean a number of different things:
The bushings of the Panhard rod or trailing arms all could be worn out. Springs don't control the location of the rear wheels under load, they only hold the car up.
If you tires are too wide, rims with the wrong offset/backspaciong could be causing your problem which also had nothing to do with your springs. The recommendations to remove the spacers behind the wheels (between the disks and the back of the wheel) is a good one.
You might also be able to roll the fender lips to gain some more space, but I would want to look at the mechanical reasons for the problem before modifying the body.
Could you perhaps post some pics of the problem?

Re: tires to wide
All true...but if he is interested in running bigger wider tires then altering ride height is a must...especially if it involves running a wider stance...kmead wrote:Stabilizing the rear end could mean a number of different things:
